Tour Overview

Explore the most iconic sites on the West Bank of Luxor with a private Egyptologist guide and professional driver. This full-day tour takes you deep into the heart of ancient Egypt’s New Kingdom, where you will visit royal tombs, magnificent temples, and monumental statues that have stood for over 3,000 years.

Itinerary

Hotel Pick-Up - Luxor

  • Your private driver and your licensed Egyptologist guide will pick you up from your Luxor hotel. Travel in comfort in a private air-conditioned vehicle.

Valley of the Kings

  • The Valley of the Kings, located on the west bank of Luxor, is the home to many royal tombs from the new kingdom. The discovery of the nearly-intact tomb of King Tutankhamun in 1922 completely transformed Egyptian archeology and led to the Valley of the Kings becoming one of the most famous archeological sites in the world. More than 65 known tombs are located in the Valley and have been cut directly into the rock. Many of these tombs are still adorned with beautiful carvings and paintings as befit their royal occupants.
  • Your ticket to Valley of the Kings includes self-guided tours of three tombs; optional tours to special tombs such as King Tutankhamun or Seti I is available with an extra ticket.

Tour Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut

  • Hatshepsut is one of Egypt’s most well-known pharaohs, and one of the few female pharaohs that we know of. She ruled for more than twenty years in a period of notable prosperity and peace. Among her many significant architectural projects is the Temple of Hatshepsut, facing Luxor and the Temple of Karnak.

See the Colossi of Memnon

  • These two massive statues of Amenhotep III once stood before the king’s mortuary temple. In later years, Greek and Roman tourists visited the site and left numerous graffiti detailing their own story of the colossi.

How long will the tour be?

The total tour time is around 7 hours, including time for lunch

How much walking will be involved in this tour?

Entry into many of the tombs can be physically demanding, with low ceilings, steep staircases and narrow passageways.

How much is expected in gratuities?

Tipping is greatly appreciated, based on the quality of the service you receive. We suggest around $5-$8 per person for your driver, and $10-$15 per person for guides. Tipping can be done in cash, either as Egyptian pounds, US dollars or Euros. For non-Egyptian currency, bills in good condition (no rips or tears) are preferred.

Comfortable, closed-toe walking or athletic shoes are recommended as there may be areas with uneven pavement. Locals in Egypt often dress modestly, so visitors often feel more comfortable in clothes that cover their shoulders and knees (t-shirts or long sleeved shirts, capris, pants). You may wish to bring a hat for sun protection, as well as a scarf or light jacket for evening.

Licensed tour guides must maintain a certification from the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, along with membership in the Egyptian General Tourist Guide Syndicate. These certifications ensure that our guides are fully approved and registered as professionals with the Egyptian government authorities.
